The Effingham County United Methodist Campground

Since the year 1790, folks have gathered at the Effingham County Campground, presently located on the Business Highway 21, one mile south of the center of Springfield, for six days of meetings, preaching, singing, and fellowship.

This Campmeeting, locally recognized as the oldest active campmeeting in the United States, is held in July each year.  God has continued to use this holy site to nuture and equip disciples as well as lead many into the minsitry.

This site holds year round activities in a Christian atmosphere.  Weddings, group reunions, fall festivals, Easter egg hunts, and more have used the Campground.    A newly upgraded dining hall and youth tent lend itself to a variety of activities.

The Campground is operated by delegated Trustee representatives from each of the UM churchs in Effingham County.  The Trustee body governs all activites, improvements, and financial decisions.

We welcome you to Effingham County and invite you to experience the history and holiness of the Effingham Campground...a place where the heart is strangely warmed.
